How to Help

There are so many ways you can help us here at Cats at the Studios. Besides donating money or supplies, we would be very grateful if you can donate your time.

Volunteer or Foster

We are a small cat rescue and adoption organization dedicated to reducing overpopulation, abuse and neglect of cats and kittens. We have no office, no shelter, and no paid staff; we are a 100% non-profit. But with community support and our dedicated volunteers we are able to accomplish hundreds of miracles a year. Cats at the Studios, Inc. is run entirely by caring people with busy lives who volunteer their time and resources to help save the lives of these animals.

Become A Volunteer

Have a little extra time and like to spend a few hours cuddling kitties? Want to help us at our adoption week-ends while having a good time with a group of people? We do not require you to spend more than two hours at a time, unless you want to, and you don't have to come every week-end. Our needs may differ from week to week. Sometimes we need an extra pair of hands to help with small clean-up duties. Occasionally we might need you to hold a shy kitten for a couple of hours during an adoption event to help socialize it. You can also help us interact with the general public and assist with adoption applications and answering general questions.

Occasionally, we need assistance with transporting cats to adoption locations or bailing them out from the shelter.

Become A Foster Parent

Want to shower an animal with love, but can't possibly keep another one? Because we don't have a permanent facility, we need loving homes to take care of and love our little/big ones until they find a permanent forever home. These homes are an integral part of our program and, without them we would not be able to save as many cats as we do. Fostering sometimes means taming a semi-feral kitten or two (kittens that are not socialized) so they may have an opportunity to be adopted. We also need foster homes for bottle babies. We provide the funds for the pre-approved veterinary care the cat or kitten might need. You pay for supplies such as food and litter and bring your fostered kitty to adoption events when the time is right.

Many potential fosters worry about being able to let their 'babies' go. Adoption day can be difficult, but comfort can be taken by knowing he or she now has a place to call home, and the simple fact that if this kitty does not go to a new home, another one cannot be saved. The emotional reward is part of what makes all the effort worthwhile!

Become a COMMUNITY FOSTER PARENT

Community Fosters, like our regular Fosters, are required to have their foster cats spayed or neutered, tested for FeLV/FIV (Feline Leukemia and Feline Aids), vaccinated, dewormed, treated for fleas, and nails neatly clipped before taking them to adoption events. We can provide any needed vaccinations, worming medicine and flea treatment for free, but you are responsible for the fixing and testing. We may be able to refer you to a low-cost vet for testing and sterilization to help defray your costs. We can also refer you to sources to obtain spay/neuter discount vouchers when they are available.

Pet ID Number. We can get you set up in our system and issue ID#s for the kitties (our foster cats have ID#s for tracking, accounting and data entry purposes).

Petfinder Listing. Please take a digital picture of your cats or kittens so we can put them up on Petfinder for viewing. Write a short biography including cat's name, sex, approximate date of birth and description of your cat's personality and special needs. If you do not have a digital camera, we may be able to find someone to assist you.

Adoption Events. Adoption events are held each weekend at Petco and Petsmart, check our website for locations, days and hours. You will receive a cage reservation email each week and you can request cage space to show your cat. If you book cage space and are unable to attend adoptions, please notify the Foster Coordinator immediately so your cage may be used by another person.

Medical Records. You should bring copies of all medical records to the adoption events, and the cats must be healthy (no sneezing or respiratory disease, ringworm, diarrhea, worms, parasites, fleas, etc.) and presentable. Your records should include dates of vaccinations, type (label on vaccine vial), proof of FeLV/FIV testing and result (negative or positive), spay or neuter certificate from vet's office and any other medical chart notes describing pre-existing medical conditions and treatment. If you need to have the cats vaccinated or dewormed, you should contact our Medical Coordinator for assistance.

Placement. You are, of course, free to place the cats outside of our organization. We hope you follow our same adoption policies for the cat's benefit. We adopt only to homes that will keep the cats indoors and will not declaw them. We also will not adopt pets out as gifts, and have guidelines against adopting young kittens out to homes with no other pets or to homes with very young children. We have an Adoption Questionnaire and carefully screen each potential adopter.

If you place the cats through our organization (this is required if the adoption arises from a contact at one of our adoption events or from our web site), then we have an adoption contract which the adopter must fill out, and a mandatory adoption donation which is determined by Cats, Inc. Board of Directors.

Cats, Inc. Foster. If you are interested in learning about becoming a regular foster with our organization, please do not hesitate to let us know. Many of our active volunteers started out by community fostering

Help Us Raise Funds

If you can spare any time to promote the no cost Ralphs Community Contribution program or know of similar fundraising ideas, we would gladly welcome your contribution. We need people to help with fundraisers and ideas at all times. This is a very important volunteer position since our existence depends entirely on charitable donations within the community. Any ideas, internet talents, or connections are always in dire need.
